OUR STORY
OUR STORY STARTS WITH OUR PROMISE
First and foremost, our coffee is for anyone that enjoys good coffee. At Strata we are committed to being a trustworthy partner in your coffee experience and if you don’t like your coffee, we will give you a full refund. Because of the time, effort, and quality control that has gone into the product we truly believe in our coffee and the community that can be built around it. So, we hope you’ll join us in this experience as we source, roast, and provide you with the best coffee possible.
Now, if you want to know more, here’s a bit about where Strata Coffee Roasting came from and why I started roasting coffee in the first place. This is primarily the result of my wife, Catherine, and her business partner, Brijesh, running two local coffee shops and wanting to take control of their shop’s own roasting. So, to begin, I started to learn about coffee roasting. Having been in the coffee industry for ten plus years, I took a few steps back from the shop side of the business and started to learn about coffee roasting (If you ever want a long coffee discussion just ask me if roasting coffee is confusing but I’ll leave that for another time).
As I learned more about roasting, it made more sense to build an independent roastery that could roast for Temp Coffee while also building its own community and supporting the growth of specialty coffee in Albany, Georgia. There’s a lot of growth left and a lot more to the story but, I’ll share that in other places so this isn’t unreadably long winded. To wrap up, it is enough to say that it has been a long first year with hundreds of roasts, a lot of trial, and a lot more error but I am happy and proud of the product that Strata is offering and I hope that you will join me as we build something amazing together over the coming years.
Since May 2022, I have been working with a completely green roaster, Jared Thompson, who is currently in training to become a production and sample roaster. This is an important step in Strata’s existence as it is always best to create opportunities for those who have a deep interest in coffee. As a roaster that had to learn much of the craft through books, online resources, and mistakes it’s been a goal to provide a local space for those who are interested to learn about roasting and to help them develop a skill set that is well rounded. To provide an opportunity that has the potential to provide a future beyond just Southwest Georgia is invaluable and something that I, as a craftsperson, take very seriously. I look forward to seeing the roaster and coffee professional that he becomes as our first fully trained roaster and hopefully, he is the first of many that we are able to empower.
IN DEPTH: THE POUR OVER
If it’s not clear, I love coffee. So, I put together an article on the history of the pour over and where people should start when they want to learn how to make pour over coffee at home.
Visit Our Roastery
If you’re interested in visiting our roastery just fill out the form below. I will offer a brief explanation of how we work in the coffee trade, a look at a few different green coffees, and then a demonstration roast on either our 1 kilo or 10 kilo roaster. From start to finish, a visit takes around 25 minutes but can go longer depending on your interest. This is a new experience that we have not seen offered very often to the public by other roasters so we are excited to be able to do this for our customer’s and our community. To schedule, just shoot an email to tyler@stratacoffeeroasting.com and we will get everything sorted and scheduled out.
IF YOU HAVE VERY BAD ALLERGIES PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DUST ON GREEN COFFEE CAN CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS SIMILAR TO A GRASS OR RAG WEED REACTION.
